Three-wheeled motorcycles — also called motor tricycles - are designed with either a single front wheel and two rear wheels, or two front wheels and a single rear wheel.
With this licence, you will only be able to drive a three-wheeled motorcycle. Some vehicles with three wheels, because of the close spacing of its front wheels, are considered to be a two-wheeled open motorcycle by Transport Canada.
If you want to get your unrestricted M licence, you need to pass both the M1 and M2 road tests for full-speed motorcycles. You will need to bring a full-speed motorcycle with you to each test.
You will be tested on your riding skills on this specific type of vehicle. You need to cancel a test at least 48 hours ahead of your appointment to avoid a cancellation fee. If you fail a motorcycle road test, and your licence is not expired, you can try the road test again. If your licence is expired, you will need to start all over and pay the fees again.

The M condition will restrict you to driving only three-wheeled motorcycles on any public road in Ontario. You may also drive a moped or limited-speed motorcycle on public roads where they are permitted. Please note: If you take your Level One road test as part of a ministry-approved motorcycle safety course, you must still wait 60 days minimum to move to Level Two. Remember that the course certificate is valid for only six months.
Be sure to take it to a DriveTest Centre after the 60 days but before the six months have passed, or you will have to take your road test again. However, if you pass a ministry-approved motorcycle safety course, you can reduce the time spent at Level Two by four months. You may stay at Level Two for a maximum of five years from the day you pass your Level One road test.
After you have completed the time required at Level Two, you may take the Level Two road test to qualify for full-class M licence privileges.
LSMs and mopeds at the M2 level are allowed to drive on all highways except for the controlled-access freeways listed in Regulation , so if you take the M2 road test on a limited-speed motorcycle, or moped, you do not complete the freeway driving section of the test. The safe speed may vary depending on road and traffic conditions. If you are unable to sign the declaration, your road test will be cancelled and you may be charged half of your test fee. During the M2 road test, the examiner will give you directions through a disposable earphone and, as you complete the tasks, will watch to make sure you successfully perform the required skills.
When you book a road test, you will be required to indicate the type of vehicle you plan to bring to the test for example, motorcycle, limited-speed motorcycle, or moped. If you pass the road test on a motorcycle that is not three-wheeled or limited-speed, you get a class M licence and you may drive a two-wheeled or three-wheeled motorcycle on any public road in Ontario. You may also drive a limited-speed motorcycle, or moped, on public roads other than those listed in Regulation of the Highway Traffic Act.

Remember: If you take your road test as part of a ministry-approved motorcycle safety course, your course certificate is valid for only six months. Be sure to take it to a DriveTest Centre before the six months have passed or you will have to take your road test over again. I read the entire motorcycle manual, nothing what he tells me is true, and he works at this moronic place!
It certainly wasn't worth the wait, and for what? A license most cops here don't even realize you have to have. The damn cops don't even know the law. I already have a class C, it expires on the 5th of July, I wanted to renew it and get the moped enforcement at the same time, well that ain't happening now. I did at least get the class C renewal done and got my picture taken and read the eye chart and thumb print, they issued me a temp license and claimed they would send the new license in the mail.
If I can get an M1 license despite the fact that I don't even own a motorcycle I guess I will do it, maybe, but seriously, I would settle for the M2. I have no insurance and if they ask for that I will not be able to comply.
I do have a brake light but I have no turn signals and if that is required I will not pass any of their lame tests. So I guess I can't get any license. I don't know, everyone seems to tell me something different. Your other option is to take one of the CHP approved motorcycle training courses. Cost you a few hundred bucks and a weekend of your time but once you pass the course the DMV skills test is waved.
You still have to stand in line at the DMV to turn in your paperwork however there is an assembly bill in the works to make it all electronic filing. Barnfresh said:. Aug 18, 6, 63 living the dream in southern california.
Here's a tip. My buddy has an old knee brace and crutches he uses when he goes to the DMV. Handicapped people don't have to wait in line. Update: Hello friends, just wanted to update this thread. It looks like the DMV didn't send my regular Class C car license in the mail because they are waiting for me to take the test for the M2 license.
The temp license that they issued me has now expired so I went to the DMV today to finally take the motorcycle knowledge test.
I passed the test and when I asked the guy what I needed to to do to get an M2 license for my motorized bicycle he took off and had a meeting with some other guys and then came back to tell me that I can't take the driving test on a motorized bicycle and that I don't even need an M2 license to drive my motorized bicycle.
He said that if I get a motorcycle I can take the driving test and then get an M1 license but I can't get an M1 or an M2 license without taking the driving test and I can't take it on my motorized bicycle. He gave me a permit to drive a motorcycle and told me that they won't send my class 3 DL until I take the motorcycle driving test or I tell them that I'm no longer interested in the M1 or M2 license in which case they would send me my car license in the mail.
This is really something isn't it? I really don't know what to do now. If I can find someone to loan me a motorcycle for the test I guess I can get an M1 license but beyond that, I will have to just give up on my quest for an M2 license and get my car license.
They issued me a temp car license that will expire next month and a permit to drive a motorcycle, I assume, to become proficient riding it before taking the driving test. I still don't know how to get an M2 license. Reactions: Tom from Rubicon and fasteddy. Tyler said:. Update: Hello friends,.
