What is the difference between creative and artistic
Sourcing the materials, hiring the right staff, and developing a brand are all aspects that require a serious amount of innovation and creative expression.
It can be as simple as inventing a new game to play with your kids or as complex as building a multi-million dollar corporation. Although every person has creative abilities, some seem to possess more of it than others.
It could very well be argued that artistry has been with us just as long as creativity. There are an abundance of cave paintings, sculptures, and musical instruments that date back even to prehistoric times. Art is a skill that provides a much-needed outlet for the cavalcade of complicated emotions that is the essence of the human experience.
Artists are inherently creative types. Being artistic happens when a person applies a skill to their creative idea. The creativity serves as the genesis, whilst the art itself is the final realization of those ideas. It can be developed, certainly, but only if the person has a baseline talent or passion for their respective artistic pursuits. Having artistic ability means being able to display your thoughts, feelings, and ideas in a way that is compelling and technical.
Beethoven, for example, was a highly gifted and artistic composer, but he also had the technical expertise to actually play the beautiful music he created. He studied the greats and developed a deep understanding of literary theory and character development. He wrote and then re-wrote drafts of his plays time and time again. Just as a sculptor would laboriously chisel out their work from a blank piece of marble, Shakespeare built his plays using a strong work ethic and great attention to detail.
We tend to pigeon-hole art as something that only exists in the visual realm. However, art can be found all around us. I believe this is something to cultivate in them, though it will probably seem scary if you are not quite so artistic yourself.
Maybe we could say an artist is someone who specializes in creativity. In my hometown there is a man who creates sculptures from scrap metal.
Women playing banjos and loch ness monsters can be found scattered at the edge of the woods on various roads. You can pass by without noticing the rusted sculptures, but if you do see them you will pull over and go look. They are creative, they are interesting, they beg a reaction whether good or bad so they are art. If you are a Type A like me God help us all then the output is often where we. When we come back and get my daughter after her independent play time I often find her in a completely different outfit.
She is happy, she is proud of herself and I know she has spent a while choosing her favorite items. Sometimes she only wants to stamp with her fingers or only use one crayon, so we let her be.
Painting, gluing, glitter, feathers, and a crown adorn the wall. Make an agreement with yourself. Starting now, just be more creative! Flip that switch in your mind about how you think about your creativity. How is it that someone who runs a multi-million dollar company can share the same title as someone with an app idea they're building on the side?
Are both entrepreneurs? And even though we're essentially debating semantics here, what I'm more interested in are the details that separate the two. If the word itself does not accurately separate, then what does? What are the defining characteristics? What I have concluded so far is that the two are not the same: art and creativity. They certainly share similarities and plenty of overlap, but the pursuits and deeper skill sets are actually quite opposite. My question to you is: which are you?
And if you resonate with one or the other or both , what are the reasons why? What deeper qualities explain that chosen association? Top Stories. Top Videos. Getty Images.
Being creative is not the same thing as being an artist--and vice versa.
